Salford Big Day Out

Ydalir are your hosts once again for a day of living history, crafts, storytelling, weapons demonstrations, and combat at Salford"s annual Big Day Out. As well as vikings there will be live music from the BBC Philharmonic, birds of prey, big vehicles, free craft workshops, food, and much much more. 11am to 4pm free parking and entry.

Chirk Castle

The National Trust at Chirk Castle will be commemorating the anniversary of King Henry II’s Berwyn Campaign against the combined Welsh Forces of King Owain Gwynedd, Owain Cyfeiliog, The Lord Rhys and a host of other Welsh princes. The opening skirmish, traditionally referred to as The Battle of Crogen took place on the Chirk estate in the Ceiriog Valley in the late summer of 1165 a.d.

See the living history encampments, crafts demonstrations, single combats, skirmishes, battles, archery displays, and much more.

The year is 885 and the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Caent is under attack! Viking raiders are besieging the town of Rochester, looting and pillaging as they go. Will Alfred raise the armies of Wessex and march to the defence of his allies through the Andredswood? Or will it be murder and mayhem by sword and spear at the hands of bloodthirsty Viking raiders?

The fourth annual Heysham Viking Festival, celebrating 1200 years of Viking heritage.

This event has quickly established itself as one of the highlights of the reenactment calendar with a large living history encampment featuring a huge variety of crafts, arena displays, battles, parades, and traders.

A multi period event with a variety of displays reflecting the long history of Peterborough and the surrounding areas.

Displays around the cathedral and in the market square are scheduled throughout the day from 10am to 5pm.

The Vikings will be creating a living history encampment and taking part in arena displays.

The Milton Keynes Festival of History

The Milton Keynes Festival of History is back to celebrate 2000 years of history and the Viking warriors will be invading. Can the Saxons rally round and fight off the marauding hordes? To mark he 957th anniversary of the death of King Gruffydd ap Llewellyn, The Vikings will take you back to the year 1062 AD, the year of Gruffydd’s final stand against the might of the Anglo-Saxons led by Earl Harold Godwinson (the ill-fated King Harold of the Battle of Hastings).

The event includes Saxon, Welsh and Viking encampments where you can talk to the warriors, traders, craftspeople, and camp followers; a re-creation of Gruffyd's war council; a skirmish; mustering of the armies; and the Battle of Rhuddlan.

The event will take place on Sunday and Monday between 10.00am and 5.00pm. For more information on events, visit cadw.gov.wales.

Stotfold Mill Steam Fair and Country Show

Members of The Vikings will be just one of the attractions at the seventeenth annual Stotfold Mill Steam Fair and Country Show at Stotfold Watermill and Nature Reserve.

Viking activities will include combat displays in the arena and a living history encampment with cooking, coin striking, and many other crafts.

Other attractions include steam engines, vintage cars, flying displays, a funfair, and live music.

This weekend The Vikings are re-creating the events surrounding the Alliance between the Saxons and the Brythonic Kings as a response to the arrival of the Danish Great Army. King Alfred is gathering his allies and the army of Wessex at Corfe Burgh ready to march on Exeter, which has been recently captured and sacked by the Vikings.

Follow the story from 10am. Look around the living history encampment and talk to the saxons and vikings. See how justice is served in King Alfred's court. A skirmish, training, and a main battle round off a great day in this stunning castle.

Members of The Vikings will be spending October half term portraying Saxons living in the Anglo-Saxon houses in the village as an extended family group. The year is 650 and all is peaceful giving an opportunity to get busy with craft activities, cooking, baking bread, using the forge, and getting the village ready for winter.

Heysham Viking Festival

The annual Heysham Viking Festival is back for a third year bigger and better than ever.

Wander around the living history encampment where you can encounter Viking craftsmen, storytellers and warriors and, perhaps, even get to hold a real sword or axe, and try on a helmet or iron shirt of mail. In the arena see warriors demonstrate the use of the fearsome Viking weapons, and at 3:30pm on both days watch as the Saxons, together with their Scottish allies, defend their land against the great Viking leader Ragnall, on his way to conquer York. 

Open from 10:30am to 5pm. Admission free.

Battle of Carham

Carham, Northumberland

Major Event

A major reenactment marking the thousandth anniversary of the Battle of Carham.

The battle between Uhtred, son of Waldef, earl of the Northumbrians and the combined forces of Máel Coluim (II) mac Cináeda (Malcolm son of Cyneth, king of Scots) and Owain the Bald (King of Strathclyde) is considered by many to be the reason why the Scottish border is where it presently is.

The reenactment will take place on the Holme, a large field next to Carham church, and quite possibly the site of the original battle (the exact location of which is not known). Both days will feature living history displays throughout and combat displays at intervals leading up to a major battle each afternoon.

Come and see The Vikings at Europe s largest tabletop gaming event being held at the NEC. We will have a Living History Village and a Battle arena, where we will put on battles and skirmishes. Why not let your children fight the viking warriors?

We also have other events planned such as tug of war with the Orcs (who are camping next door to us!) and no doubt some of the cosplayers will be paying us a visit over the weekend.
