West Stow Anglo Saxon Village

West Stow Anglo Saxon Village & Country Park

Members of The Vikings will be spending October half term portraying Saxons living in the Anglo-Saxon houses in the village as an extended family group. The year is 650 and all is peaceful giving an opportunity to get busy with craft activities, cooking, baking bread, using the forge, and getting the village ready for winter.

Battle of Hastings

Re-live the atmosphere and tension, as warriors clash in the re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings. Witness the action on the date that changed history and immerse yourself in early medieval life. An action packed and entertaining event for all the family.

Salford Big Day Out

Ydalir are your hosts for a day of living history, crafts, storytelling, weapons demonstrations, and combat at Salford"s annual Big Day Out. As well as vikings there will be live music from the BBC Philharmonic, birds of prey, big vehicles, funfair rides, food, and much much more. 11am to 4pm free parking and entry.

Explorethe encampment and see spectacular displays of combat. Hear tales of daring conquests, and learn about the weapons and skills which made the vikings feared throughout Europe.

There will even be a chance for your young warriors to learn some battle skills and take part in their own viking skirmish!

Heysham Viking Festival

Heysham, Morecambe

The annual Heysham Viking Festival is back for a third year bigger and better than ever.

Wander around the living history encampment where you can encounter Viking craftsmen, storytellers and warriors and, perhaps, even get to hold a real sword or axe, and try on a helmet or iron shirt of mail. In the arena see warriors demonstrate the use of the fearsome Viking weapons, and at 3:30pm on both days watch as the Saxons, together with their Scottish allies, defend their land against the great Viking leader Ragnall, on his way to conquer York. 

Open from 10:30am to 5pm. Admission free.

Avalon Marshes Archaeology Open Day

The centre have recently built a roman villa and a saxon longhall. The Vikings will have living history displays and demonstrations of crafts of the Viking / Saxon period in the longhall as well as an arena for combat displays.

Battle of Carham

Carham, Northumberland

Major Event

A major reenactment marking the thousandth anniversary of the Battle of Carham.

The battle between Uhtred, son of Waldef, earl of the Northumbrians and the combined forces of Máel Coluim (II) mac Cináeda (Malcolm son of Cyneth, king of Scots) and Owain the Bald (King of Strathclyde) is considered by many to be the reason why the Scottish border is where it presently is.

The reenactment will take place on the Holme, a large field next to Carham church, and quite possibly the site of the original battle (the exact location of which is not known). Both days will feature living history displays throughout and combat displays at intervals leading up to a major battle each afternoon.

UK Games Expo

NEC, Birmingham, West Midlands

Come and see The Vikings at Europe s largest tabletop gaming event being held at the NEC. We will have a Living History Village and a Battle arena, where we will put on battles and skirmishes. Why not let your children fight the viking warriors?

We also have other events planned such as tug of war with the Orcs (who are camping next door to us!) and no doubt some of the cosplayers will be paying us a visit over the weekend.

May Fayre Celebration featuring crafts and entertainment from the dark ages to the modern day. The Vikings display will be centred around the year 1009 with a living history encampment and battles featuring Vikings raiding Sussex and the South coast from their base on the Isle of Wight.

Corfe Castle

Medium Event

Re-creating the events surrounding the Alliance between the Saxons and the Brythonic Kings as a response to the arrival of the Danish Great Army. King Alfred is gathering his allies and the army of Wessex at Corfe Burgh ready to march on Exeter, which has been recently captured and sacked by he Vikings.

Gates open at 10 am, with combat, living history encampment, and justice being served in King Alfred"s court, all against the background of this stunning castle.

Caldicot Castle

Caldicot Castle,Church Rd, Chepstow, Caldicot

Medium Event

Come and see the vikings battle the Welsh and Saxon armies at Caldicot Castle.

The year is 910 and a daring raid by the Vikings allows them to kidnap the bishop of Archenfield. They ransom him back to king Edward for 40 pounds of silver, but the vikings don't leave so the welsh and Saxon armies have to drive them off.

There will be two battles a day in the main arena. Come and see our village with crafts including cooking, dyeing, tattooing, trading, and many more.

We will also have displays of viking warrior games and a viking strongman competition in the village arena. There is also a chance for your little warriors to be in a shield wall, charge and kill the Vikings.( Restricted to age 10 )

Joining us in the other half of the site is a medieval camp with jousters and all manor of costume and combat displays.

Arley Arboretum

We're back at Arley Arboretum & Gardens for our second visit of the year. This time the Normans are invading!

In contrast to the show at the start of July featuring the events of 793 AD, the year is now 1066: Clothes, weapons, and armour have all changed dramatically, and the Viking age is about to end!

Petersfield Heath

South Downs National Park, Petersfield Heath, Hampshire

Come and join us on Petersfield Heath for a weekend of horrible histories as we bring the story of the heath to life through re-enactments and wildlife fun. Meet characters from the past and discover the wild animals that inhabit this precious but now rare habitat.

Activities include: Have a go with Saxon swords and shields, have a go archery, Roman onegar demonstrations, log boat rides, meet the reptiles and amphibians of the heath with Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, meet the cows and sheep that graze our heaths with the National Trust, bug hunting with the RSPB, wildlife tattoos with Sussex Wildlife Trust, and archaeological activities with the South Downs National Park.

The year is 885 AD and the kingdom of Kent is under attack! Viking raiders are striking at the Anglo-Saxon town of Rochester, looting and pillaging as they go. Will Alfred raise the armies of Wessex once more and march to the defence of his allies? Will the town defences hold? Or will it be murder and mayhem by sword and spear at the hands of bloodthirsty Viking raiders?

This multi period, two day show, set in the grounds of the East Anglian Museum of Rural Life is set to be a fabulous event. The show is in its second year and will showcase historical reenactments from early Saxon years, right through to the Cold War!

The vikings are part of the first day of the two day Festival of Filey: Return of the Dragon. Attractions at the festival include Filey Dragon Marching Bands, Marauding Vikings, Sea Cadets, The Imps Motorcycle Display Team, Stampede Stunt Company, The Way of the Cossack Warrior, a classic car and bike exhibition, traditional funfair, trade stalls, a world food fair and classic tea room, and a large stage featuring local bands plus European tribute bands, The Rock of Ages and Planet Abba.

Re-enacting the Battle of Buttington: The year is 893 and Britain is being ravaged by the Viking army who after encountering resistance on the continent see our lands as a soft target. The Vikings have been part of several attempts to overthrow King Alfred the Great's kingdom but for now there is a tense peace between the Vikings and the Saxons, however, all that is about to change.

Daxtonbury Festival

Daxtonbury Festival is a three day, family friendly event held to raise money for the Chris Kelly Cancer Trust.

The Festival features live music, high quality food stalls, beer tents, a cocktail bar and a unique range of other activities such as pony rides, dog agility courses, kids area, clay pigeon shooting, welly wanging, and, of course, Vikings!

This will be The Vikings third year supporting Daxtonbury Festival.

Tarbert’s replica longship Freydis, joined by Magnus Vikings longships from Northern Ireland (tbc), and the Arran longship (tbc), will transport Vikings to a series of local Viking events.

Thursday 6 July - Inveraray, Friday 7 July Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig, Tarbert on the 8 July and end in Portavadie on Sunday 9 July.

Lots of groups are taking part including - Tønsberg Vikings from Norway, The Causeway Archers, The Glasgow Vikings and Medvind from Sweden.

Join us at Rhuddlan Castle and be transported into the very heart of early medieval Wales.

Come and meet our historical characters, experience a spectacular battle re-enactment and be trained as a medieval warrior! Rhuddlan Castle will celebrate one of its earliest and decisive battles, fought in an age long before the construction of Edward s castle. We will take you back to the age of the Welsh King Gruffydd ap Llywelyn and to the year 1062 AD, the year of Gruffydd s final stand against the might of the Anglo-Saxons led by Earl Harold Godwinson (the ill-fated King Harold of the Battle of Hastings).

You will be able to walk amongst the Saxon, Welsh and Viking encampments, talk to the warriors, traders and camp followers.

Whithorn, Dumfries & Galloway

Part of the Scottish 2017 Festival of Museums: "Forage, Feast and Fire!" is a weekend of Iron Age activities with a theme of fire and feasting !

Events include prehistoric painting, building an Iron Age oven, a chance to sample wild foods, and a Viking encampment and combat displays.

The event takes place in the beautiful town of Whithorn where you can also see the Finest collection of carved stone crosses in Scotland dating from the Roman era and recently completed reconstruction of a roundhouse.

893AD: The Danish Great Army has invaded. Vikings have captured and sacked Exeter. Things do not look good for King Alfred and his allies.

Join us as King Alfred and the army of Wessex begin their long and brutal campaign against Haestan's Danish army.

Follow the story from 10am when the gates open with a skirmish, have a look around our living history encampment and talk to the Saxons and the Vikings. See how justice is served in the court of King Alfred. Have your children trained to be in the Saxon fryd. Watch the two armies muster in the square then meet for the main battle. All this and a stunning thousand year old royal castle maintained by the National Trust.

We're back in York again as part of this year's Jorvik Viking Festival. As usual, members of The Vikings will be providing a living history encampment in Coppergate where you can meet warriors and craftspeople, watch demonstrations, play games, and listen to stories from 10am to 4pm each day. On Saturday there will be a march through the town and a major battle.
